Buying a Fixer Upper

So my husband and I had been looking at houses for a handful of months, without much luck!  Really there was not a lot I liked that much, at least in the area I wanted to live in or in our price range!  Plus, the Columbus housing market was crazy...so you didn't have much time to think about things!  There was one house that we put an offer in 2 different times....and just didn't work out...so just not meant to be.There was a day when Keith was out of town for a fire training and I decided to go look at a house with our realtor.  This house was close to ideal location (really very close to where I lived before moving in with Keith!) and looked like it would be move in ready.  When we looked through it, it just wasn't right.  Tiny basement, laminate floors that I didn't love the look of, and really just not much space, including just 1 bathroom!  We had a little time left so she suggested we look at one that had just come on the market, good area, just looked maybe a little outdated....so we went to check it out!Walking in I had a great feeling immediately- even though I faced outdated wood, carpet as far as the eye could see, and lots of 70s style wall paper!  It just felt good!  Was a really cool layout...considered a split level- which I typically hate, but this was different!  Coming in the front you can walk up a few steps to a large living space with living, dining, and kitchen as well as a bonus 4-seasons room.  You could also walk straight through the foyer to a family room full of an exposed brick fireplace with attached laundry room and bath.  There was also an upstairs with 4 bedrooms including a full bath off the master and guest bath with double vanities. There was a basement that was partially finished plus a part for storage. It also had a great fenced yard for the dogs...with a pool!So really this house had pretty much everything we wanted- multiple living spaces, a master bath, enough rooms to have a guest room plus me to have a separate office/closet room, 6 ft fence for dogs, 2 car garage (mostly for gym stuff), and a space for a ping pong table!  Buuuuuut....Keith was out of town AND this house already had an all cash offer!  SO....I sent him pics and said I really thought it was a good house, so he trusted me (and our realtor) and was ok putting in an offer never seeing it.  Our offer got accepted and I find out the next day that he didn't even look at the pics.....His actual quote was "so is it like actually nice or really a fixer upper?"  Oh shit!Luckily he did like it (well not the carpet and wallpaper) but agreed we could do a whole house renovation & it would be great!  So here we are...buying out first house...not really knowing anything about renovation...but figuring it all out!Enjoy pics of when we purchased and stay tuned for all the changes!
