2 Months Out!
So today marks 2 full months since my shoulder replacement. 2 months sounds kind of long, but hasn't felt quite that long!Overall I am doing well. I started weaning out of the sling at 6 weeks and have not worn it at all for over a week now. I have had more soreness and pain than the first 6 weeks, which makes sense since I am using it more! I still have lots of restrictions, no weight bearing and no real resistance (not even meaning working out, more like carrying something too heavy or opening a heavy door). There have a been a few times I thought I could use my right arm for something and it quickly tells me that I am wrong! My biggest goal and job right now is to work on improving motion, which is going ok. I would be lying if I said I was completely happy with the motion now, but it isn't bad. Passively I can get about 140 deg of flexion...the more frustrating part is that I am getting some pinching pain that seems to limit that- which I was hoping would be gone after surgery. BUT I do keep making improvements - so positive thoughts! The MD also made sure I understood that although this 6 week period is important for regaining motion, it could take up to a full year to get where I would like...so that is a lot of patience! The scar is really looking pretty good, much better than I thought! Have started doing some scar massage & we did some cupping over it at PT- which was probably the most painful it's been! haha! I promised myself I would try to do a better time this surgery with celebrating small wins....which I am still working on! I am able to do my hair now! Even up in my signature "Jenny bun"! I have been able to wash and brush my hair myself (still depending more on my left arm) and have used a curling iron (no wand yet- that requires a motion that I can't quite get yet!). Being able to do my own hair is definitely nice! I 100% appreciation my husband and mom who have done it a ton (with some help from friends too- special shout out to Amber for doing it a few times! including washing) but its hard to not be able to make your hair look like you want....so it helps me feel more like me now that I can do it! I also have been sleeping in my bed (still with Wade always by my side), which is nice! Was ready to get off the couch! AND just the other day I started driving!!!!! I could have a couple weeks ago (when the sling could come off) but I have a stick shift and that is still a no no...so I got a new car!!! Just for my shoulder, no- more to be better than my little stick shift in the snow....but it definitely prompted getting it sooner! I was an independent driving lady all weekend long! Woo hoo!!!!!And workouts....because it's something people always want to know about! I try do something a few times/week - with shoulder exercises, stretching, and some core daily. I don't like to do too much just left arm stuff & from mostly just squatting and lunging (sometimes with just a left side load) I have started to have some occasional knee pain, which is annoying, but workouts for now are just for health and to move, so I don't force anything! Healing is the focus!I look forward to updating you on even more progress next month....which will be 2019! Crazy! Thanks for being interested in this process- it means a lot!
